3 Uprights, Top Ring, and 1/4" Quarter Solid Completed- Senna Plans

Today I was able to get 5 more pieces done. Using the jigsaw to make most of the cuts and the router to to smooth the grooves has been working quite well. 15 pieces done and 7 left to go. All of the Uprights are done.

Side Plates and 7 Uprights - Senna's plans

So today I did some more cutting of wood to create the frame. I found that cutting with the jigsaw to make the groove much easier. Then I hit it with the router afterwards. Also the notches so far on the uprights line up which will make it easier later on. Here are the pics:
This 7 of the 10 uprights. The second down is actually a G and has wood filler. I thought I needed 2 E's. Next is the side plates.
Cutting these out were pretty straight forward. The challenge was with the 1/2" groove in the center but they seem to have come out okay.

10 of 22 pieces. I can't wait to get the frame done.

Bottom base from Mike Senna's Plans

So my last post was in July 2013 and it is now April 2014. Time flies....but I have managed to tell myself that I need to do this so....today I did that very thing. I created the base of the frame. See image below:

I like to think that I did a pretty good job considering I never really worked with wood before. So this piece is from Mike Senna's R2-D2 plans from the R2 Builders Club. I used a jigsaw to cut as close to the edge and then I used a router to finish the rest. Then I used a drill to drill a hole in the wood for the center cutout and then used the jigsaw to cutout the rectangle. Then the router was used to cut the grooves. For anyone that reads this: some of the router groove are rather close together so take you time otherwise the router will take away the partitions. All the grooves are to 1/2" mainly cause I could not find a specific value. So I went with 1/2" and it should work.

Also note that the one on the bottom is CNC cut and fortunately this more than likely not to be seen. I think next time I will by one of those aluminum frames. They are nice but rather expensive.

First!!!

This is my first blog and first droid build. I am mainly using a blog to document what I did and when I did it. I plan on making an R7 series unit. I will name it R7-H3.

I am going to use most of the dimensions from the R2builders site.
